Creating Healthy Habits

Updated: Jul 26, 2019

So, we all generally know how to lose fat. We know that we should eat healthier, sleep more, drink water, and perform resistance training. Now what? Knowledge means nothing if it doesn't influence our actions.

Did you struggle to actually implement all four of these tips from How to Lose Fat into your lifestyle? If you did, try this:

START SMALL

It might be difficult to make all of these changes at once. When people drastically change their habits in a short period, they often revert to their old ways just as quickly. In order to create a healthy habit, you need consistency. And it is difficult to be consistent with your habits when you add too many things at once. So, start small.

If you want to eat healthier, don’t tell yourself you will eat perfectly healthy for the next three months. You will only set yourself up for disappointment. Instead, start with a smaller goal.

Maybe make a goal to eat one serving of vegetables today. Once you accomplish that goal, try to do that for three days in a row, then a week, and so forth. Once you create that habit, try implementing another one.

This is much easier than starting with one overwhelming goal. However, you may still find it difficult to hold yourself accountable to these smaller goals.

To keep yourself accountable to your daily goals, establish a time you will commit to them. For example, if your goal is to drink more water, then you could tell yourself, “I will drink one full cup of water every morning at 7am.” Adding a time to your goal will make you much more likely to do it. Use calendars or phone reminders to your advantage.

Starting small is a powerful, but overlooked technique to use when creating healthy habits.
