Enjoying the Process
Updated: Jul 26, 2019

Here’s a little secret about the diet world: EVERY diet works. People often say they are “going on a diet,” which suggests that they will eventually get off of that diet. The term “diet” implies a temporary situation, or a quick fix. Quick fixes won’t do you any good in the long run. Whenever you try to lose fat, it is essential that you have a long-term goal in mind.
HOW TO THINK
When you are trying to lose fat, don’t think that you’re going on a diet. Eliminate the word, “diet,” from your vocabulary. Instead, focus on improving your nutrition. When it comes to your nutrition, if you wouldn’t do something forever, then don’t do it at all.
For example, let’s say you hear about the ketogenic diet or intermittent fasting. Then, you start the ketogenic diet or intermittent fasting and begin losing fat, but you don’t enjoy how the diet is making you feel. So, you stop it and go back to your old ways of eating. This happens all too often, and people quickly regain the fat they just lost.
HOW TO EAT
There is no one best way to eat. But whichever way you decide to eat, you MUST enjoy what and how you are eating because that is the only way you will continue eating healthy forever. Focus on how food makes you feel AFTER you eat it, not while you eat it.
With every meal decision, choose the healthier option. Focus on the quality of your food rather than the quantity. Stop counting calories. Stop beating yourself up when you eat something unhealthy. As long as you’re making as many good choices as often as you can, you WILL see progress. It’s not just about the results. It’s about developing a healthy relationship with food.
HOW TO EXERCISE
There are so many exercise strategies available that it’s easy to become overwhelmed by trying to find the “best” way. Don’t concern yourself so much over finding the best way that it stops you from actually exercising. Bring it back to the old days where all exercise was considered good exercise, because it’s still true. Just do it.
